Way back in the bad old days of Netscape 3.0.4 (yes 3) you gave us a choice of
"split vertically" for both the mail pane and the news pane configuration.  This
was my favorite.  It allowed me to maximize the use of my large screen.

Newsgroups or Mail Folders on the top left
Postings or individual E-Mail on the bottom left
A full vertical (and about 75% horizontal) view of a individual posting on the
right.

This seriously minimized the need to vertically scroll inside an individual
posting or e-mail (some are quite long).

I never thought of reporting this as a bug, but I really miss the feature.

You could choose it by going to Options/Mail and News Preferences/Appearance  

The choices appeard towards the bottom of the window.

I also really liked the way that Netscape v3.0.4 made it easy to have a separate
window (pane) for both the e-mail reader and the newsgroup reader.  This is
possible with the current version, but much harder to use.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Go to Mozilla/Preferences/Mail & Newsgroups/Windows
2.The choice isn't there anymore!
3.

Actual Results:  
Couldn't pick the way the Mail and News panes used to be displayed.

Expected Results:  
Given me a 3rd choice of "split vertically" for both the Mail and News pane

Bug 89941 is apparently about making layouts user-configurable.

xref bug 223134 -- same thing for TB, mentions this layout in particular.
