User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

Entering a string into the Google search window and pressing return no longer
works, but choosing another search engine in the drop-down list does still work.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Enter string into Google (default) search window, press return
2.Choose another search engine from drop-down list, press return
3.

Actual Results:
Other search engines work; Google doesn't

Expected Results:
Google used to work, now doesn't. BTW, entering search in Google window on main
(default home page) window does work.

I'm using bellsouth.net for my ISP. The Google search is no longer responding
but it returns a real estate header. The Google search works when I load
Internet Explorer using the same home page.

Me too.

I have been using Google search for a *long* time, suddenly. It stopped working. No action takes place when I press enter: http://groups.google.com/group/netscape.public.mozilla.browser/browse_thread/thread/95a654d7766c3940/3de4678ea70d51c3#3de4678ea70d51c3

I've found the following reported in the cool Javascript Console whe this happens:

Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED) [nsIInternetSearchService.GetInternetSearchURL]"  nsresult: "0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED)"  location: "JS frame :: chrome://browser/content/search.xml :: onTextEntered :: line 200"  data: no]
Source File: chrome://browser/content/search.xml
Line: 200
Me, as well.

I usually run my login as an unpriviledged user. So this means I have to elevate my rights to Admin, then go and redefine the Search Bar Google link.
Often it won't hold, often it looses it if I have had to do something else with Firefox or some other rights elevation.

I can confirm. I've seen this once or twice in the past, and it's started happening to me regularly the last few days - the Google search plugin stops working, but other search plugins are still listed. As the Google Groups thread linked to in comment #3 suggests, the problem each time is a missing google.src file.

I enabled a Windows SACL on google.src to find out why it kept going missing, and according to the Windows Event Viewer, Firefox is deleting it. This seems very, very odd to me; I have no idea why Firefox does this or under what circumstances.
is this still a problem or can this be resolved ?
This was most likely a problem with the old engine update system corrupting the Google .src file - I likely does not apply to the new search service/update system.
