Right now printed messages from Mail/News and Thunderbird don't do much more
than copy the From, To, Subject, and Date headers from the message source and
print them AS IS preceding the message.

However this is not consistent with the way the message is printed onscreen.
The Date onscreen reflects your own time zone, but when you print it, the Date
reflects the time at the location the message was sent from. For example:

ONSCREEN Date: 11/19/2004 01:42 AM
PRINTED Date: Fri, 19 Nov 2004 00:42:44 -0600

Onscreen messages also normalize e-mail names; for example, it will remove the
quotation marks from [From: "Joe User" <joeuser@mozilla.org>].

For attachments, onscreen messages show only the filename, while printed message
also display the Content-Type and Content-Transfer-Encoding. Right now the
printed layout for attachments is far too confusing; the filename should be more
prominent.

Also attachments on Windows display the appropriate document icon onscreen; this
would be very useful to see when printing.

All of these layout options that are already shown onscreen would be very useful
for a printed e-mail message.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

See also Bug 14985, which recommends putting the users Account -> Your Name as
part of the printed message (Outlook Style), and Bug 134492, which gave us
attachments in printed messages in the first place.

For ambitious coders, creating a whole new set of print templates would make
printing more consistent AND prettier!

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
