Details
(Whiteboard: [closeme 2010-03-10])
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
With the new tabbed browser setting "Force links that open new window to open
in:" set to "The same tab/window as the link", clicking on the "Log On" button
opposite "Business internet Banking" on this URL causes Firefox to shut down,
rapidly (more so than a normal manual shut-down) and completely. Changing the
setting to "A new tab" causes a new tab to open and the target page (Log in and
password) to appear, but the original page in the first tab shuts down, equally
suddenly. The other Log In buttons on the page work as exteced and don't shut
down Firefox.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Go to Tools > Options > Tabbed Browsing - Tick "Force Links that open new
window to open in:" then tick the button "The same window as the link"
2.Go to the URL given, and click the "Business Internet Banking" "Log On" button
3.Repeat with second option set to "a new tab"
Actual Results:
1st setting: Firefox suddenly closed down completely with no error messages.
2nd setting: Firefox opened the target page in a new tab, but the first tab
suddenly shut down.
Expected Results:
1st setting: Opened the target page to which the link refers in the same window.
2nd setting: Opened the target page to which the link refers in a new tab,
leaving the original page open in the first tab.
Default theme in use.

Here is a second URL that displays the same problem. Go to
http://www.sony.co.uk
and click on the "Sonypictures" button at the top of the screen. The page
attempts to transfer you to another page, and Firefox shuts abruptly as before.
Opening in another tab shuts down the first tab as with the first reported URL.

Could you please provide Talkback incident ID of your crash? Maybe you have to
install Firefox again with "Quality Feedback Agent" enabled.

I installed the Quality Feedback Agent along with Firefox. There is no automatic
feedback as the website closes Firefox - it shuts down completely and instantly,
with no error messages - just like clicking the close symbol, but faster. Is
there a way to make Firefox report on the closure - or is there a log file
produced automatically? I'm not very technical, so you may have to spell it out
for me :-)

If you open JS Console before try, you will see, that Firefox doesn't crash (JS
console persist repro), just closes browser window.

No feedback from the reporter. Feel free to reopen the bug when you are still able to reproduce it with the most recent version of Firefox.
