I have noticed this bug in the Final 1.0 release of Firefox. When I try to
download some extensions,
a error message pops up saying download error. I still can manually install it
after d/l to the hard drive though.

Yes, could that be the culprit ? As this error happens 
just ocassionally. I can still download extensions even 
with the cache set to 0
yes, that's a known problem.
