User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 I need to have a resolution to my messages not beind moved to the sent folder. The messages disappear. At our office, we need a paper trail for email. This is critical to fix. We love the email client and browser, but need solution ASAP. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Either create new message, reply or forward 2.Send message 3.Message disappears, does not move to sent folder - cannot find. Message is sent to recipiant. Actual Results: Message cannot be found, I do not have confirmation of message being sent. I need to have copy of message after being sent. Expected Results: It should move the message to the sent folder.
please check your account settings...and see what the sent folder is set to for the identity you're sending from. If you set up multiple identites, especially with versions prior to .9 (or a little later, not sure), the sent folder can get set to a different folder then you expect (e.g., a deferred account's sent folder)
I also have the same problem, although I notice that Thunderbird won't save my settings for the 'Sent' and 'Drafts' folder.
Actually, the message is in the "sent folder", you can find it by selecting another folder and then select "sent folder" again. I think the problem is that mozilla mail doesn't refresh the display automatically.
Mozilla1.4 has no such problem.
(In reply to comment #2) > I also have the same problem Kurt Overberg, same question as comment #1 by David. Go account setting, and go "Manage Identities...", then "Edit" and choose "Copies&Folders" tab and check your setting for all Identities. Another question. What is your Thunderbird version or build ID? > although I notice that Thunderbird won't save my settings for the 'Sent' and 'Drafts' folder. Which panel? "Copies&Folders" setting panel of the account? Or "Copies&Folders" tab of above multiple identies? See Bug 213300 and check your "Server Settings" and prefs.js entries.
i have the same problem with version 1.0 under linux - 'not always' - but with the same symptoms.
if this problem occurs on my linux box - i have in my /tmp folder this files: -rw------- 1 murdav users 3938 Dec 24 10:05 nscopy.tmp -rw------- 1 murdav users 3850 Dec 24 10:05 nsmail.eml -rw------- 1 murdav users 2765 Dec 24 10:05 nsmail.tmp and in my gui the "'Sending Messages' Status: Copying message to Sent folder ..." window is open ... and open ... and open - until i press on the 'Cancel' tab. in my /tmp folder the 3 files still remain - and when i have this "'Sending Messages' Status: Copying message to Sent folder ..." again - more files are added to the /tmp dir

(In reply to comment #7) >... until i press on the 'Cancel' tab. ...at which point, I'll bet, it reports an error message indicating that the message was not sent, when, in fact, it was, and it was only the copying a message to the sent folder which failed. Quite a security problem, IMO - I could result in the user unintentionally sending many copies.
(In reply to comment #9) you are right -> ...and it was only the copying a message to the sent folder which failed. i also think there is a junction with [ bug 209501 -> check comment 72 ]. now i have discovered that when i _dont_ press the cancel tab on the "'Sending Messages' Status: Copying message to Sent folder" window _but_ press on the 'x' aka 'close window' of my original edited message to close all windows (the edited window and the 'Copying message to Sent folder' window) - i often loose the first message in my 'Inbox' folder.
Isn't this related or identical to bub 277352 ? https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=277352
Possible, but I'm not using any filters, so your comment (#10) there seems to be a red herring.
If i understand correctly, your comment is not logical here. My question was whether this bug 271259 is related or identical to bug 277352, not whether a comment posted at the other bug applies to this bug. If you are experiencing bug 277352 and it doesn't stop when you temporarily disable filters, please post your red herring comment there. Thanks, Ekhart
Is this imap or local folders? Can this be reproduced with a trunk build?
It's IMAP for me, I don't use any local folders so I can't confirm whether it happens there too.
Is this bug related to the bug 231493?
This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter. I've not seen this issue in a while. While I'm here, since I wanted to help confirm I can't reproduce this, I thought I'd mention my other bug (bug #270052), which plagues me with every build back as far as I can remember. :) Anyone know who I can ask to at least take a look and see if there are any suggestions? No one but me has ever responded to it, it looks like the assignee is MIA or just not responding.
While I don't have exactly the problem described by the original author of this bug, I do have the problem that is discussed in comments 7,9, and 10. That is, Tbird hangs on "copying to Sent folder" and won't go away until I click cancel, and then it claims the message wasn't sent (but it was) and asks to save it in drafts (which usually doesn't work either) and then after cancelling that, the message is often in the sent folder after all (but sometimes not). I use IMAP, filters, and thunderbird version 1.0 (20041206) on Mac OS X (10.3.7). However, I've experienced the same bug on Linux versions of Tbird.
Brian, the 1.5beta1 builds have fixes for many instances of those problems...

Ever confirmed: true
The original reporter of this bug, M.Kruchko, dropped the ball by never responding to comment 1. It may have been an issue with per-identity Sent settings (as suggested in comment 1), or with the problem seen at bug 221386, or with problems copying to a remote IMAP folder. M.Kruchko, if this bug is still a problem for you, please say so. Kurt Overberg's comment 2 appears to be bug 221386. The problems reported by David Murko and Benjamin Reed, about copying to IMAP, could be dupes of any of several bugs that have been fixed; all the fixes this area I'm aware of are in Seamonkey 1.0 and TB 1.5. Bug 298974 is still open.
I am still working now with tb 1.5 for longer time and my problem ( please check -> comment #6 + comment # 7 + comment #9 ) did not appaer anymore. So thank you for fixing :-)
