User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 0.9 (20041103) Eudora (V5.1 in this case, but I believe in all versions) the Out folder is used to contain both previously sent emails, as well as emails waiting to be sent. A status flag is used to determine if an email is queued for sending or has previously been sent. When migrating the entire contents of the Eudora Out folder was placed in the Unsent Messages Folder of Thunderbird. This would cause all previously sent emails to be sent again the first time the user sends email. For users like me, who can't remember diddly, and use their Out box to remember what they said to who over the past several months, this can be a lot of mail resent. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Migrate from Eudora 5.1 to Thunderbird. Actual Results: All previously sent emails were queued for delivery in the Unsent Messages Folder. Expected Results: EMails which have been previously sent should have been moved to the Sent Folder. Only those queued for delivery should place in the Unsent Messages Folder. While this is a one time bug for the user, i.e. only at migration time, it is important that the experience of the user converting to Thunderbird be as smooth as possible. A new user who is embarassed because they unintentionally resent all their previously sent emails from the past many months, or years if they don't clean out their out folder, may be less inclined to preceed further with Thunderbird.

I too can confirm that this has happened on three separate email accounts here when migrating from Eudora 6.2 to Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0 final. Windows XP SP2. This did NOT happen with Thunderbird 0.8.

I also had this happen to me, yesterday. This is dangerous because it asked me if I want to send my unsent messages. If I had responded affirmatively, I would have resent thousands of old messages.

I can confirm the same migration problem moving from Eudora 6.2 Lite to Thunderbird 1.0 in fresh, first time install. I have no messages in my ThunderBird out box and 25,404 messages waiting to be sent! Needless to say, Thunderbird is unusable in this condition.

pretty major issue. confirm using eudora 7 and TB version 3.0a1pre (2007112004) - I had one unsent message in eudora and it didn't get imported to thunderbird's "unsent", it was filed in outbox. see also bug 391223, which I can't confirm.
Severity: normal → major

This is likely fixed by recent importer improvements in the Penelope project.

Importing from Eudora was removed from Thunderbird in bug 1243498. Please see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Importing_from_Eudora_-_Thunderbird on how you can still import from Eudora if you need that.
