The browser window opens with the status icon indicating "Offline".  (It truly
is offline.)  This happens whether I am launching Mozilla or merely switching
profiles.  In the latter case, Mozilla goes offline even if it was online.

This is similar to bug #270535.  However, that bug report indicates the problem
is sporadic and occurs in 1.7.3.  In this bug, the problem is consistent and is
new with 1.8a since I never observed it with 1.7.3.  Thus, this bug indicates
REGRESSION (something that used to work no longer works correctly).
This is a duplicate of bug 240898, for which the fix was not checked in until
after 1.8a5 was released.  

Note, however, I frequently switch back and forth between two profiles,
sometimes with multiple tabs open.  I never see this with 1.7.3 despite the
discussion in 240898.
