Using the SUNWspro compilers for the build, neither CXXFLAGS or LDFLAGS
are used when linking together the shared libraries, so the "-mt" flag
isn't being passed. The library dependencies probably aren't correct
(non-threadsafe vs. threadsafe). Haven't seen problems resulting from
this, but it should be examined at some point.

As of a couple of weeks ago, both CXXFLAGS & LDFLAGS are being used when making
shared libs.

I've just checked a recent M15 build with the Sun compilers. Library building
now seems to be done with cc and with the -mt command line option. As Chris
says, this would appear to no longer be a problem.
