I'm using an IMAP account and if I select Properties->Server Settings->
Advanced... -window and cross "Show only subscribed folders" before I have
subscribed anything, then the subscribe-window on my account doesn't give me the
choise to choose these folders.
One can always do it the other way: go to the folder subscription first and then
mark the "show only subscribed folders".

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. create an IMAP account
2. go to properties -> server settings -> advanced
3. mark "show only subscribed folders"
4. go to your IMAP account, right click -> subscribe (there's nothing to be seen
here)
Actual Results:
There are no folders to be checked for subcription

Expected Results:
show the available folders, so that one can subscribe to the folders he/she
wants to be seen under the account
something here doesn't make sense - the default is to show only subscribed
folders, so the first three steps wouldn't be required. Had you earlier changed
the setting to show all folders, not just subscribed folders? Can you generate
an imap protocol session of what happens when you follow your steps?

bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.
