Thunderbird should provide the ability to define filters on the existence of
attachments.
Example: I want to define a filter wich moves all new mails with an attachment
(no matter wicht filetype the attachment has) to a special folder.

AFAIK Outlook and Outlook Express provide this ability and so I think
Thunderbird should provide it too.
