User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird 0.9 (20041103) The Clear button before Thunderbird 0.8 was associated with Alt+C to clear the Quick Search bar. Thunderbird 0.9 now has a red X button one can click to clear the Quick Search bar in one step, but keyboard users are still stuck with pressing Ctrl+K followed by Delete followed by Tab to achieve the same effect. Can we bring the Alt+C shortcut back? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.

Couldn't find a dupe. This was discussed a little in bug 255643; in fact, there's a patch which is supposed to clear the field on ESC.

I support this RFE. When the focus is in the search field, I'd love to be able to reset the search field using the Escape key just like in the type-ahead-find in Firefox.

Yes, Escape works. Better than ALT+C as it's only one key.
