Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
Build Identifier: version 0.9 (20041103)
I have been using Firefox nearly since it split off from Moz (same problem in
Mozilla) -- there seems to be no way to order the listing of the accounts. I,
at _least_ appreciate my default account being listed first, but the other
accounts should be sortable or movable with drag-n-drop.
Additionally, when choosing a 'from' account, I would like to be able to type
the first couple of characters of the "user" (not name, since it is often the
same -- but I have different "user" accounts for different vendors/mailing
lists) and have the From list scroll to a matching entry. If I type the same
character(s) again, it would search forward from that point or beep if no
match.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Unavoidably reproducible. Add accounts z,b,d,a,f,g. They are in order
added with no way to reorder them except for choosing "primary account" which
gets put at top. While this could theoretically be used to sort the list, it
would be a rather "twisted" method of account sorting ...:-/
2.
3.
Actual Results:
random account order
Expected Results:
provide drag-n-drop on account list to move accounts, and provide auto-seach
in drop-down "From" (in compose window) by typing first few letters of the
username of the account.
Setting this Severity to "Major" has this has been a _major_ annoyance from
day one and only gets worse as new accounts are added. In the From drop-down
box, I have more than a screen full of "From" accounts and find it hard to
locate a desired account to choose.
Thanks, and pretty please...this has been a basic feature provided in MS
Outhouse as long as I can remember....

This is the Mozilla MailNews bug 61078. It certainly is an oft-requested
feature, and I'm surprised not to find one already filed for this under TB.

Too bad, that's wrong. A bug is not granted severity based on annoyance, but on
whether it prevents someone from running the program without crashing, without
losing data, without loss of function.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/bug_status.html#severity
See bug 61078 comment 22 for information on the order in which accounts are
displayed -- you can use that to tweak the display order yourself, by making
changes to this entry in prefs.js: mail.accountmanager.accounts
Note that whichever account is selected as "default" will always appear at the
top of the list of mail accounts.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".
This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.
While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.
If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.
The latest beta releases can be obtained from:
Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/
Thunderbird: http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/releases/1.5beta1.html
Seamonkey: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/
This is still an annoying bug (version 1.0.6 (20050716))
with no apparent fix. Tweaking the internals of a a T-bird
database file is no way to try to re-organize multiple >20)
identities over 2-3 real accounts.
At one point, I thought I remembered reading about some
extension that allowed some control or management, but
I could never find it or it wasn't maintained to work
with the current versions of TBird.
This one shouldn't be an RFE, as it burns up time everytime
I have to hunt for an email address to use with the correct
vendor or discussion list. Someday I should do an analysis
by server and/or vendor to determine which email addresses
are most targetted by spammers....might be interesting (or not)...

This is a problem for both TB and Seamonkey. Can someone please set up a procedure in bugzilla that changes bugs & features requests specifically requested for one application be administratively set to be apply to both Applications. Less time would be spent on searching for a previous submission not listed for the specific application the user has? That would save administrators and users from creating and closing duplicate requests.
Thanks

It would also be great to then have the app make the change to the server ID info in the prefs.js file so that ID 8 and server 8 becomes ID 1 and server 1 when the account is moved to the top position in the manager and if one is currently there then it is automatically moved to the second place in the manager and becomes ID 2 and server 2 in the prefs.js.
Also please change ID 1-9 to be ID 01-09 and sever 1-9 to be server 01-09 so that it remains in numerical order within the prefs.js and is not required to be dangerously edited the pref.js manually by the user and possibly break the email client from display email.
Thank you
