The thunderbird client doesn't seem to reply to the return receipt request. 
I've tried sending a message to myself. 
I don't get any asking ( i set it to 'ask me' whenever i receive the request ) 
even after i set it to 'always send', still nothing.
no matter how many times i try, the thunderbird doesn't reply to the request

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Get Thunderbird 0.9 verstion
2. Send an email to yourself with the 'return receipt request'
3.

Actual Results:  
No asking and no receipt received

Expected Results:  
should get asking if i want to reply or not if you have set it to 'ask me' in 
the preference. or should get a receipt if you have set it to 'always send'

dupe of bug 178820, which is already fixed for Seamonkey, but a fix will be doen
for T-Bird as well.

This bug has been marked as a duplicate of  178820 which has been closed.

 178820 refers to IMAP. This bug refers to POP3. Whether that is relevant I
don't know but a) this problem still exists on TB1.0
b) two people at least have commented very firmly at  178820 that it should not
be closed because it is not fixed.
c) This was closed as a duplicate of  178820 but left as UNCONFIRMED even though
it has been recognized as related to 178820 for which a patch was raised.

This problem is not fixed. Please re-open either this (and recognized it in its
STATUS) or 178820 or both. Thank you. RDL

isn't it fixed with a recent nightly as bug #273356 says?
Do you use Global Inbox?
Reporter, you wrote you sent a mail to yourself.
Did you do this with TB? TB doesn't use "Return-receipt-to" headers but
"Disposition-Notification-To" headers. So which header doesn't work for you?

I did it with TB. Yes. disposition-notification-to header doesn't work.
I haven't tried with "Return-receipt-to". it'd be much appreciated if someone
could  try the return-receipt header. 
I'm not sure if the bug's been fixed with recent nightly version.
I'm waiting for the next stable release to come out
If you send a mail to yourself the notfication will not be triggered because
the mail-address in DNT header it the same as your configured address in TB.
Could you test with different (not configured) mail-addresses?

I've just tested with different mail-address, and it still does not work.
