Menu-items (and bookmark items) go white-text on white-background when
highlighted. This does not extend to drop-down boxes in web-pages, just in the
menuing.

Since this sounds to me like a defect in UI or base library.  I'm running a
fully patched Slackware 9.1 system.  

Minimum requirements listed for Firefox are:
Kernel 2.2.14 / Mine is 2.4.26
glibc 2.3.2 / Mine is 2.3.2
xfree86 3.3.6 / Mine is 4.3.0
gtk2.0+ / Mine is 2.4
fontconfig/xfg / Mine is 2.2.1
libstdc++5 / Mine is 5.0.3



Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch system normally
2. Go into any menu

Actual Results:  
Selected menu-item goes white-on-wite

Expected Results:  
Menu should highlight in a contrasting text/background

There's been considerable work in the Gecko 1.8 cycle on better theme hooks for
GTK2.  Can you retest with a build from
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/ and see if
the problem is in the development versions?

As a matter of fact, this does fix this bug!  hilight is white, and the text
goes from black to a light blue.  As it should, I expect.  Coincidentally, this
also closes out bug #265704 for me (I'll nip over there next).
