Build Identifier: Firefox 1.0
Whenever I open firefox, it freezes. I cannot use the browser anymore
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
Actual Results:
The browser freezes. After restarting the computer, restarting firefox,
uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, it still does not work
Expected Results:
Fix the problem of the browser freezing so I can use firefox again. This
problem has never occured before.
One of the most noticeable differences in the browser before I click any
buttons is that my searchbox size adjuster extension is not there anymore and
the size of the searchbox is the same size as without the extension. The
adblock icon is no longer there also. The toolbar buttons and the location bar
is also frozen. The crashing first started as a very rare occasion. However,
it has gotten to the point that I cannot use it at all anymore.

Try using safe more. Most likely you have a corrupted profile caused by an
extension.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/index.phtml?title=Safe_Mode_(Firefox) for
instructions.

Yeah. I've got the same thing going on, but it only happens on one computer;
the one at school. I have FX set up to access my profile from my flash drive
like a good little hacker should (I do not promote nor do I encourage use of
"aiieeeee" anymore, so I take my 'fox with me wherever I go), and for some
reason the only browser I can use at school is IE.
Same as Blake, too: A un/reinstall or FX/Compie restart does nothing. I can't
use it at school. The only extension I installed before this occured was
ChatZilla, and from what I can tell, it doesn't affect the way Firefox runs on
anything but the HP at school.
Frankly, it angers me to no end.

I am having the same problem but it only started yesterday after my computer
had loaded multiple updates from Microsoft.
The updates were:
Security Update for Windows Media Player 9 Series (KB885492)
Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB873333)
Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB890047)
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB867282)
My O/S as you can see from the updates is Windows 2000, Service Pack 4.
I am suspicious that for one reason or another on of these updates is
interfering with Firefox.
Paul de Ville Forte
I am having the same or similar problems:
Note: This is a recent development that I noticed started happening after the
latest batch of Microsoft XP patches.
The exact problem:
There doesn't seem to be a problem for the first few hours after a system
reboot. However, after a few hours, if I open ANOTHER firefox window (not
another tab), all firefox windows freeze for a good 10-15 seconds. After the
freeze, they resume functionality...unless I open another window with a link or
even a javascript popup. The problem definately seems isolated to new windows,
not new tabs. And the problem doesn't begin occurring until several hours after
the system has been rebooted.
My Windows XP Pro system has ALL microsoft xp pro updates (critical and
optional). I run the following programs while using firefox: msn messenger,
skype, emule and sometimes winamp and windows media player. I don't think those
programs are interfering with firefox though. I think it has something to do
with the latest windows patches (about a week or so ago from today's date: Feb
26th 2005).
