Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
Build Identifier:

I decided to try Firefox and still want to use it.

However, I noticed that unlike before, when I created an htm page using MS
Word2000, the text IN text boxes was always "justified", not "aligned left". So
I uninstalled Firefox to see if that would make any difference.

I uninstalled Firefox as per your instructions and usual practice
using "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel.

Now, when I click on any htm file stored on my floppy or harddrive, it won't
open even though I DO have Internet Explorer 6.0 installed on my computer and
updated.

Also, all of the icons beside the htm files are FIREFOX ICONS, not Internet
Explorer icons, despite the fact that I've temporarily uninstalled Firefox.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to harddrive or floppy and double click on any .htm file.
2.
3.

Actual Results:
A box pops up:

"Windows cannot find FIREFOX.EXE.

This program is needed for opening files of this type".

Location of FIREFOX.EXE.

C:/

Expected Results:
Open the document in Internet Explorer now that I've uninstalled Firefox!

I tried restarting my computer; installing and uninstalling Firefox. Now it
seems that my computer will ONLY open htm files if I have Firefox on it... and
it is "broken" for that purpose if I choose to use Internet Explorer.

I hope this is not by design.

Please advise soonest.

The whole purpose of my computer is to create htm documents and turn them into
web pages. If I am now unable to do this and later view them from my harddrive
or floppy without using Firefox, I will be choked.

Your attention to this is appreciated.

Thanks.

Chris

P.S. The ideal solution for me would be to have Firefox installed, and use it
for my web surfing, but to have IE open files of this type so I can check them
since most people use IE currently. However, not being able to open files of
this type at all unless I have Firefox installed is not satisfactory.
Was it an old version you've uninstalled? It certainly seems to be a bug in the
uninstaller.

You should be able to set IE as the default browser which should revert the file
associations. I don't remember where these settings are as I didn't use windows
for a long time.
Summary: HTM FILES WON'T OPEN AFTER UNINSTALLING FIREFOX. → htm files won't open after uninstalling firefox
for a workaround see bug 250509 comment 1, see bug 255225 too
