On www.deviantart.com I was clicking through there galleries and clicking
on/saving quite a few pics for quite some time (1 to 1.5 hr) and felt my system
running slow, when I checked my memory usage FireFox was at 459,204K (see
below). When browsing I would keep the main window open and then open pics I
liked in a new window. I would often click on the pic in the new windows to see
a larger view of it. I would then close the new windows when I was done with
that pic. If I let my computer sit for 20min the memory drops in to the 200mb
range. I would say that firefox is not cleaning up memory fast enough rather
than not at all but that’s just my non programmer opinion.
I am running 1gb ddr memory, 2.8ghz p4, winxp pro sp2 all my patches as of
11/29/04, Firefox 1.0 en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 <<whatever
that means.

Expected Results:

see screen shot of memory at www.advprojects.net\upload\screen.jpg
and thanks for writing such a kick a** browser!
What you see is your OS together with firefox caching as much memory as possible
in order to minimize load times if you happen to use the same chunk of data
again. Every modern OS will let the memory consumption of applications grow to
the size of the totally available RAM because of this. It only gets a problem if
the memory doesn't get freed when other apps need it. Firefox and mozilla do
have some problems with memory management but developpers would need something
much more specific than that. You should be able to find some more specific bugs
in bugzilla.

I'd suggest you mark this bug as invalid or make it a duplicate of one of the
already filed "memory consumption bugs".
