In today's builds there are some problems with the mailnews message pane. To see
this, try displaying a bunch of messages.

It doesn't happen to me every time, but here are things I'm seeing:

Sometimes headers like To: and From: show no content until I resize the window.

Sometimes if you have message that has a cc: and then you click on a message
that doesn't, the cc: header remains and is empty instead of disappearing.
adding beta1 keyword. This is pretty important.  I'm not sure it's a blocker,
since you can resize but it would be great if this could be fixed as soon as
possible.

Isn't the toolbar just a temporary means of displaying this info?  It is a major

regression from 4.x to not be able to scroll the message header up and devote

the whole message pane to the message content, you lose at least an inch of

precious vertical real estate.  Should we really be spending time fixing bugs in

such temporary UI? Couldn't we just fix it with the final intended UI?

I'd also contend that only the disappearing 'To' field is really a serious

problem, since the other fields are visible in the thread pane.


Huh? The toolbar are definetly *NOT* temporary. Look in the UI specs and you'll
see that they are there. The issue of us getting the toolbar header view to
scroll with the body needs to happen but it is orthoganal to these display
problems. they aren't part of any temporary UI.

I also have to disagree about the disappearing To field as the only beta bug
here. We can't really be considering shipping a beta where reading a message in
the message pane shows missing header information in the from, cc, newsgroup and
user agent fields? This is horrible. Even more so since all of this has been
working great until the box landing last week.

I also don't know how we can consider shipping a beta where the message pane
looks so horrible when you click between message that have fields like cc and
messages that don't. the toolbars are no longer resizing when content within the
toolbar is collapsed using visibility collapse leaving large blocks of empty
space. It looks atrocious.

For the record: I love evaughan's box landing that when in last week. I can
really notice the speed improvement in the reduced number of reflows in
messenger. However, it introduced these two regressions when displaying messages
that are very serious to me when it comes to the usability of mailnews. I'll go
down fighting making sure these two regressions get refixed for beta. =)

Hyatt here is another temporary bug until I get back from vacation. Reassign it 
back to me on the 23 if it doesn't get fixed. Thanks.

Hey Eric hopefully this well help you diagnose one of the problems in this report.

After your box landing, if one or more elements contained within a box are
hidden using visibility-collapse, the enclosing box does not recalculate its
size. That's why we are left with all this blank space around the header boxes
after viewing messages with cc fields and then clicking on another field that
doesn't have a cc field.

Have fix testing.

Running a mozilla build pulled at 10:30 am this morning. I'm still seeing the
same problems. See my comments above about boxes not resizing when elements
inside the box are hidden using visiblity-collapse.

I'm seeing the content of the headers (much better than yesterday!) but I am
seeing blocks of empty space, e.g. when there's just me on the To line, the To
block is still large enough to contain several lines and the rest of that space
is wasted.  Is that the same bug Scott mentions?
