Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

When I start up firefox my homepage does not load and I get a "page not found"
error. If I open tools/options/general/connection settings, click "OK", and
then press the home icon my homepage will load without a problem. I don't know
the details of our automatic proxy file.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set up automatic proxy configuration
2. Start up firefox
3.

Actual Results:
It appears that the proxy information is not automatically loaded.

Expected Results:
Load the proxy information and then load my homepage without a problem.
and what Do you get if you are trying to load homepage again after the error
without going into the preferences ?
Appears to apply for "homepage" loading only, which is attempted without using
the configured *.pac. While waiting for the timeout, a "netstat" on commandline
reveals Firefox 1.0 is trying to connect directly (shows a direct http request
to the site at port 80, instead of a proxy connection, with "SYN_SENT" hanging
around). Later on, the same page URL works flawlessly using the proxy. Which
makes it a pain in the ass for our corporate users forced to use the proxy.

This behavior appears to apply for the first opening with a URL as "homepage"
when using the proxy is required. Try a local page (i.e. on your intranet)
which is available without proxying, and it will work.
Of course, later on, the same URL giving a timeout upon startup, will connect.
While waiting for the timeout for, let's say, www.google.de, I found a
lingering connection with netstat to the target host, using port 80 and
"syn_sent", instead of a proxy connection.
Therefore it is impossible to select a "outbound" homepage for our corporate
users.
