There is no way to tell it to remember POP account passwords, so every time I
start Thunderbird, I am prompted for the passwords of all my POP accounts. It
remembers them for that session without any problems.

But if I shut Thunderbird down and start it again, it prompts me for my POP
passwords again.

I'm running Thunderbird 1.0RC1, but 0.9 did this as well. My platform is
Slackware 9.1.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Thunderbird
2. Enter passwords for POP accounts when prompted
3. Shut down Thunderbird
4. Re-start Thunderbird

Actual Results:
A prompt appears asking for the password for each POP account as it checks each
account.

Expected Results:
There should be a "remember this password" checkbox or some other function that
enables Thunderbird to remember email account passwords for longer than just one
session.
works fine here. I have remember password turned on for all my accounts by
selecting the save password checkbox at the password prompt
The password checkbox is not visible in Thunderbird version 1.0 (20041206). I
am using Redhat Linux 9 (Shrike).
I am also getting this bug on Thunderbird 1.0 (20041206) - Mandrake Linux 10.1.
The odd thing is, it is only affecting new pop3 accounts I create - there's one
account I've had set up for ages which the password is saved fine, whereas if I
set up any new ones, it does not let me save the passwords.

The really weird thing is - if I go into edit / preferences / advanced / view
saved passwords - the passwords it keeps prompting me for do seem to have been
saved correctly.
This bug seemed to go away when I created a new profile, so I have managed to
"adapt" my old profile as a demonstration of this bug - which just pols an
unused Yahoo mail account and refuses to save the password. The only problem is
I cannot upload it, as even Zipped it is 1.3Mb... Is there a way I can upload
this to help diagnosis of the bug?

Thanks.

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

A while back (as I posted at the time) I managed to isolate a profile which
reproduces this behaviour. I just tried the profile under thunderbird 1.0.6, and
the bug still occurred. However, whether the bug that caused the profile to be
"corrupted" in this way in the first place is still present, I have no idea. I
have not created a new profile for some time so I have no way of telling.

Again, can anyone suggest a way I can upload a 5.6Mb profile folder here?
Hopefully someone might be able to do something useful with it.

Reporter, does the issue still occur with the latest supported 2.0.0.x / Shredder trunk nightlies?

(1.5.0.x is now end-of-life and the latest supported Thunderbird version 2 is 2.0.0.16)
