pine has a nice feature where it can store its configuration on an IMAP
server. All it needs to store locally is what IMAP server its configuration is
on or that can be passed from the command line.

For someone who uses Thunderbird from 3 computers on a mixed Windows + Linux
environment it's tedious to keep all the profiles in sync with all the
filters, etc. (the filesystem cannot be shared in my case).

It would be really cool for Thunderbird to store the following on an IMAP
server (it could for example create a folder that the user doesn't subscribe
to so it's hidden):

- Profile
- Settings
- Newsgroup messages that are marked as read (it's so annoying to move from
one computer to another and see newsgroup messages marked as new again -- I
know this is how NNTP works, there's no state on the server, but Thunderbird
could make it better).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
Component: General → Preferences
