User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040906
Build Identifier: version 1.0RC1 (20041201)

If you import mail from your .mozilla profile with the import wizard (that only
comes up if you don't have a preexisting .thunderbird directory) without enough
disk space to import all the mail, it doesn't give you an error message. It just
imports as many messages as possible.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Compact your mozilla mail folders.
2. Have a look at the size of the Mail directory of your mozilla profile.
3. Fill your home partition until you have less free space than that.
4. Remove .thunderbird and start thunderbird.
5. Let the import wizard import your mozilla mail

Actual Results:
Import seems to succeed. Look at your mail: Quite a few are missing, depending
on the amount of disk space available. => dataloss possible if you don't realize
that not all messages were imported.

Expected Results:
Give an appropriate error message.

Nice idea, but won't make the 1.0 train. Minusing for 1.0.

I get a very similar problem (in both 1.02 release and in the Nightly Build I
downloaded on 11.Jy.2005) except the amount of disk space I have is irrelevant.

At first, the Thunderbird import was importing the mail, but into the wrong
folders (mail accounts). Also, so folders from Local Folders were not present in
Thunderbird.

After tidying up my Mozilla Mail accounts a little, I tried again. I found it
very, very annoying that it's only possible to import from Mozilla if you:
uninstall Thunderbird; delete the "Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird" directory;
delete the "Application Data\Thunderbird" directory"; reinstall Thunderbird.

This time, no folders were in the wrong account, but all of the Local Folders in
Mozilla were not present in Thunderbird. This was true for the 1.02 release, and
the Nightly Build.

I feel this is a critical flaw. I cannot migrate to Thunderbird if it means
abandoning a lot of my message archive.
Okay, I just tried the new release (Thunderbird 1.0.6) and it was still
impossible for me to successfully import my Local Folders from Mozilla Suite 1.0.8.

But I did find that copying the profile folders worked. Copying everything from

  Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\yhckbi5q.slt\Mail\Local Folders

to

  Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\u6dl7frx.default\Mail\Local Folders

seems to have worked. All the mail counts match up, attachments seem to be
present and correct, and I can't see any missing messages.

So it seems possible for Thunderbird to handle the Local Folders I have, which
means it must just be the migration tool that's broken. At least there seems to
be a workaround. But surely this bug would be very easy to fix? (I'm a Java guy,
not a C/C++ guy, I'm afraid, or I'd try to wade in.)

Also, I'm using Windows XP, not Linux, so can someone empowered change the value
 of OS.

Hi Bob. You're problem seems to be totally unrelated to this bug. The specific
bug described here is about not having enough disk space and an only partially
succesful migration taking place without the user realizing that the migration
didn't go through fully and therefore risking the user's data. It would be great
if you could either find a more fitting bug or if you could open a new one.
Thanks a lot.
And while I'm at it: Try a new trunk nightly
(ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/ back up your profile
first!) before reporting a new bug, that's where all the changes go into. The
1.0.x releases are for security and stability fixes only.

we shipped 1.0 and 1.5 with this, will take a patch if we can get one though.

From which versions of the Suite do we still support import from?

(In reply to Gary Kwong [:gkw] [:nth10sd] from comment #7)

From which versions of the Suite do we still support import from?

I thought all support was dropped about Thunderbird V30.

Magnus, do we still import from the suite?

Migration has been dropped. Import might still be working. This bug can be closed though.
