User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:0.9.4.1) Gecko/2002 - Netscape 6.2, Mac OS X
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:0.9.4.1) Gecko/2002 - Netscape 6.2, Mac OS X
If you go to the application specific pane, Print Selection Only and Frames
options are disabled, if you select a printer preset.
Printer presets are a feature built-in OS X print dialog: you can record
extensively used options and recall them by selecting one in a dropdown menu
inside the print dialog.
The problem arises only when you select a custom preset. If you choose
"Standard" from the dropdown menu, the forementioned options become active.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. If you don't have one, create a printer preset using the Print dialog in any
OS X application that use it
2. Open a browser (tested on Camino and Firefox)
3. Visit a web page, with frames
4. Select some text
5. Menu: File -> Print
6. Select the application specific pane ("Camino", "Firefox") from the various
printer specific menu items
7. Select a printer preset from one of the other dropdown menus present
8. Switch between "Standard" and the preset in the dropdown menu
Actual Results:
You see that when the preset is selected, some options are disabled. Returning
to "Standard" re-enable them
Expected Results:
Options should be enabled olso when using presets
I have searched and found a couple of old bugs that might be related to this,
but I'm not sure. Anyway, they were all closed. So I filed a new one.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter. Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5 Confirmed. Also note (fixed) bug 312415. Let's hope the next public version of Firefox includes this fix, so we finally get to print selections on the Mac platform.

Still a problem on Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3 . Also I found more bugs I think are related to Mac Print Presets. I didn't create separate reports, but if someone thinks I should, please add a comment to that effect. 1. With the print preset defaulting to Standard, pull down Print / Presets / Save As. It will suggest Standard 1. Don't bother to change anything, just save it. Then print a blank page using Standard 1 to set it as the default. Then go to another page, select some part of it, and try to select Print / Firefox / Print Selection Only. You can't -- it's greyed out, but it shouldn't be. Then toggle Print / Presets back to Standard and then back to Standard 1, and now it's not greyed out and you can print selection. 2. While the print preset is defaulting to Standard 1, pull down Print / Presets / Save As. It will suggest Standard 1 1, but it should be Standard 2. However, if you save Standard 1 1, the next iteration will be Standard 1 2. 3. Create a custom page size using Page Setup / Paper Size / Manage Custom Sizes. It will suggest Untitled; leave it, just set the size to something reasonable. Then go to Print / Paper Handling, select Scale to Fit Paper Size, pull down size Untitled, and save it by pulling down Presets / Save. Then cancel out of and re-enter the Print dialog, returning to Paper Handling. The size selection was not saved. This always fails for custom sizes, but always succeeds for built-in sizes. 4. Repeat the above up but instead of doing Presets / Save, do Presets / Save As, and save the new preset. All the blue controls in the Paper Handling subpane turn to greyscale. Color is also drained from the Copies & Paper, Scheduler, and Cover Page subpanes, but not the other subpanes. Cancel out of and re-enter the Print dialog, and color is restored. 5. The division of labor between Page Setup and Print dialogs is confusing. What is the relationship between Page Setup / Paper Size, and Print / Paper Handling / Paper Size? Between Page Setup / Settings / Save as Default, and Print / Presets / Save? Between Page Setup / Scale, Print / Paper Handling / Scale to paper size, and Print / Firefox / Shrink to fit page width? Why are the page orientation and scale factor only available in Page Setup on Mac, and not with all the other page setup in the Print dialog like on Windows? I have always found the division of labor between Page Setup, Print Preview, and Print to make life more difficult than necessary, both on Mac and Windows. IMO: A. One function (Print Preview) should allow the user to preview, change, and manage ALL configuration as well as Print, and one function (Print) should just be a one-click shortcut for Print Preview / Print. B. The selection of a different printer or configuration should not require the actual printing of anything in order for the selection to "stick". C. If the user goes through the trouble of selecting something on the page prior to printing, the least the computer could do is set the "Print Selection Only" setting for them.

Still a problem in Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100315 Firefox/3.5.9 To reiterate, the 'Print Selection Only' and 'Frames' options are greyed-out whenever the "Presets" option is anything other than 'Standard'.
