Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041110 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041110 Firefox/1.0 I click the 'bookmarks' menu at the top of the screen, and see a list of my bookmarks. I want to edit the properties of one of the bookmarks, so I right-click on the bookmark. A menu appears, with "Properties" as the last entry in it. I want to select 'properties', but being lazy I notice that the "r" in "properties" is underlined, so I press "r", knowing that when letters in menus are underlined, it's indicating a keyboard shortcut. Imagine my surprise when instead of the properties for that bookmark being shown, the bookmark menu disappears, but the sub-menu (with 'properties' in it) stays showing. Also, the browser window goes off and visits my only bookmark which begins with an r. It's as if the main bookmark menu still has the keyboard focus, even though a sub-menu, the context menu, is showing. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. make a new folder in your bookmarks 2. add 2 bookmarks to the new folder, one whose name begins with 'r', and one whose name begins with something else 3. click the bookmarks menu, click the subfolder, right-click the bookmark which doesn't begin with 'r', note the underlined "r" in "properties", press "r", aiming to edit the properties, note that the browser visits the bookmark whose name begins with "r". Actual Results: The browser visits a bookmark, instead of editing a bookmark's properties. Expected Results: I would expect "r" to effectively click "properties" in the context menu.

Should keyboard shortcuts be present in context menus in the first place? See Bug 259362 Comment 22
Ben, I think I may have confused you by getting my terminology wrong, but that comment 22 in bug 259362 is saying that you shouldn't DISPLAY the shortcut when showing the context menu, but that the access key should still work. What I was reporting is that the access key doesn't work. I was using the term "shortcut", but that was wrong. I meant the way that a different letter is underlined in each menu entry. Those letters correspond to the 'access keys', not the shortcuts...
You are right, and all the info is in the Bug that this has been duped against
