This problem is not as straightforward as I originally thought.
It happens only if you have an existing profile. I tried the exact same build
with a fresh profile and the error does not occur. However, using the
corresponding zip build does not yeild an error with the exact same pre-existing
profile.
Now, here is the really strange part. Once you start firefox once with a fresh
profile, you can go back to using your old profile and it works fine.
It would appear that something in the initialization of the application chrome
does not happen right if there is an existing profile. So in order to get the
installer version to work you need to start it once with no profile so that the
application crome gets correctly registered. (of course I'm just guessing here)

It seems to be some issues with the Installer build.
I tried both the 1.0+ installer build and the 1.0+ zip build and the Installer
build now installs Firefox (no issues there) but it gets stuck with ineffective
buttons with no text by which I have to close it with the Red X on Windows.
After doing that, Firefox will open and give the above bug. I've not had it
happen with any of the corresponding zip builds so far.

Oh, I'm sorry I forgot to say that I've had it happen consistantly with a blank
profile with the Installer build.

Please ignore comment #1 completly. I got confused as to which shortcut was
launching which version and was running the version created from the zip build
when I thought I was running the installer version. The installer version
always throws an error box for me regardless of profile being used. In fact, it
does this if I try to launch the profile manager or launch in safe mode. This
happens with an install to an empty directory.
Strangely, a re-install of the same version of firefox still prduces an error
window but with a different error. It now produces:
<dialog

I'm going to dup this to the newer bug 272982, because that bug has been given
smoketest blocker status. Plus it has screenshots of the problem, and it won't
have comment 1 to confuse anyone. :)
