[Broken out of 9157, to avoid annoying developers by re-opening bugs that really
are fixed. ;-]

Just as Win32/Linux users might expect the Escape key to dismiss a dialog,
Macintosh users expect similar behavior from Command-period. (On Mac OS,
Command-period should dismiss a contextual menu, or select "Cancel" in a dialog
box.)

Actually, MacOS HIG says it is a keyboard equivalent for <Esc>, but MacOS Help
says it will cancel the current operation. I doubt more than 1% of Mac users
know about this. ->future.

Pfft... Peter, can you identify a single Mac OS system dialog (or dialog from a
highly regarded Mac application) which doesn't honor the Command-. behavior to
dismiss a dialog box?

It's the attention to little consistency details like this which is key to making
a Macintosh application that the community will adopt.

But, y'know what, that's okay. It seems to me that engineering/marketing
management is choosing to take a path that will never lead Netscape 6 to more
than negligible adoption on the Mac, so it's clearly not worth my time to argue
about decisions like this anymore.

Love,

Eli

This bug is targeted at a Mac classic platform/OS, which is no longer supported
by mozilla.org. Please re-target it to another platform/OS if this bug applies
there as well or resolve this bug.

I will resolve this bug as WONTFIX in four weeks if no action has been taken.
To filter this and similar messages out, please filter for "mac_cla_reorg".
In OS X 10.3.3, using Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; de-AT;
rv:1.7) Gecko/20040514, dismissing dialogs like passwort dialogs, "URL not
found" dialogs etc. works using Cmd+period.
Mac classic only bug. -> WONTFIX
