Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 0.9 (20041103)

When displaying long messages, the scroll bar behaves as if the
bottom of the physical screen is the bottom of the window. As a
result, the scroll button becomes inaccessible towards the
bottom of the document.

This only seems to happen in "Wide view," in which the folder
and message selection panes share the top, and the message
pane is the full width of the browser.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Thunderbird. be in "Wide" view mode.

2. Grab the bottom of the Thunderbird window with the mouse and
drag it up to, say. 25% from the bottom of the monitor.

3. Select and display a message with text that is as long as
(or longer than) the full monitor height.

4. Try to scroll down to the bottom of the message using the
   right-side message scroll bar.

Actual Results:
The scroll button disappeared below the bottom of the Thunderbird window.

Expected Results:
It should have configured the scroll bar (and scroll button size/range)
to fit the actual window height.

The computer is running Windows 98 SE.

I see this with TB 0.9+1201, Win2K.

It's very tricky to describe. As seen in the screenshot, the status bar (and
attachment bar) can be hidden -- truncated by the bottom of the window.

This is related to the splitter position, and (I would guess) some minimum
heights. When the problem is visible, it may seem that dragging the splitter is
not possible -- but in fact, if you drag downwards, the internal height of the
message pane decreases, the scrollbar starts to shift, and after a certain point
the status bar and attachment bar scroll into view from "below" the window
bottom.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Summary: Scroll bar assumes full screen height in wide view → Wide layout display glitches
This shows up particularly on my laptop, which has a 600 x 800
pixel screen.

Another symptom of the same bug: just as the scroll bar "thinks"
the window is longer, so does the text display. End result is
that the text at the bottom of the message is invisible.

I am however able to size the window+splitter such that the scrollbar disappears
