99% of the time I do not want to paste the formatting of the text I am copying
from a web browser, etc. because it messes up all my fonts, sizes, etc. in the
TB compose window.
I know there's a menu "Paste without format" or something to this effect, but
I am asking for an easy key binding for it (like CTRL-V for Paste) or an
option in the Settings so the default is "paste without format" and the user
can choose whatever default.
Thank you.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
Summary: Paste without formatting option or at least have an easy keybinding → Paste without formatting preference or at least have an easy keybinding

Could someone please CONFIRM this bug?
When composing an e-mail, the hands are usually on the keyboard, so, while it's
VERY nice to have the context menu "Paste without Formatting" (bug 64647), it
would be even better to also have a keyboard shortcut.
My suggestion is Ctrl+Shift+V because it is most closely related to Ctrl+V
(Paste) and "modifies" it (Accel+Shift+V for you Mac users ;-) ).
I'm hoping someone will find the (hopefully short) time to implement this before
Thunderbird 1.1 comes out.
PS. The gand-daddy of this bug is bug 64647, the sister is bug 192330. (Should
this be a "Core" bug?)
PPS. Bug 192330 comment 0 gives a good justification for why the current
(undocumented) Ctrl+Shift+V = "Paste As Quotation" is less used and should be
changed to Ctrl+Shift+V = "Paste without Formatting".
PPPS. CC'ing neil.parkwaycc.co.uk@myrealbox.com since he was the hero of bug 64647.
I cannot believe somebody made Ctrl+Shift+V "paste as quote". Who in the world uses that more than "paste without formatting?"
Could we at least get another shortcut key for "paste without formatting?" Or are these keys still up for grabs since they are not documented here:
http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/keyboard
Much appreciated; this is probably my favourite bug since I paste into email from web pages all day long.

Does anyone know of an addon that would allow me to assign Ctrl+Shift+V to "paste without formatting"?

All right, I found the addon needed to reassign keyboard shortcuts:

Hopefully this will help someone...

Does anyone dispute that paste without formatting is really the sanest / most useful default paste behavior?
I feel like one of the biggest problems with open source projects is the lack of anyone responsible for a coherent ui design / usability strategy. Is there any such person on the Mozilla team who could comment on this, as to why this isn't the default behavior or (if they agree) give the issue some priority?

I am not on the team (just another user) but I disagree that paste without formatting is the "sanest/most useful default paste behavior". Most other software, with the exception of plain text editors, paste *with* formatting. There is usually an "Edit/Paste Special..." option to allow paste as text. Unless there is a very compelling reason I would want Thunderbird to behave like other software, not the "best" way.
Having said that, I also nearly always want to paste without formatting. A keyboard shortcut is a huge convenience for me, but thanks to the addons (See comment #5), we can have that.

Extensionroom URL is broken, this is result of an AMO search:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/4147
For Tb 1.5 & 2.0 only.
