(Whiteboard: [needs followup bug for "Select All" msg context menu])
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041127 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041127 Firefox/1.0 Thunderbird should have the capability to move all messages in a folde to trash from the right click context menu. I filter all junk messages to a folder to make sure Tbird isn't picking up something it shouldn't. Once I'm done looking in that folder I should be able to right click and be able to move the whole mass to the trash folder. This is not capable right now. Messages must be selected in order to be trashed.. which is counterintuative. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Right mouse click on a folder 2. Look at context list 3. Option does not exist. Actual Results: Context expected was not available Expected Results: Given the ability to move messages en masse to trash

Usually, this is easily doen by ; - Press CTRL+A by left hand(if mouse is held in right hand) - Drag selected mails, or select "Delete Selected Messages" from context menu But I agree on that mouse only operation is required. Many software's implementaion for it is as follows, I think. (a) Selection (a-1) "Select All" option in Context menu or Main menu (a-2) or Drag operation (b) Action (b-1) "Action for selected items" in Context menu or Main menu (b-2) or Drag operation And Mozilla/Thunderbird already has (a-2), (b-1) and (b-2). Sam, what do you think about best implementation? - not only for you but also for other people - not for specific purpose only, for general/multiple puropose instead. I believe that adding "Delete all" and "Move all" and "Copy all" ... is not a good design.
I'm not sure this is actually a bad design... it's something terribly handy that KMAIL has.. you right click on the folder and move all messages to the trash bin. There's really no other use for it except for easily moving a large group of messages. As is stands now.. I am clicked on the folder I have to click into the header pane... CTRL-A to select all right click in that context and then choose move to and then navigate the folder list to choose the trash folder. I have the junk folder set to empty at 3 days.. but sometimes after a day and a half there's 1500 messages in there.. I'd like to clean up. I suppose another solution to the problem is to make the context menus editable by the user... where you can edit the menu and choose an action from a subset choice of actions. This covers the question of what makes it work for everyone.. since everyone can make their own context menu.

For deletion of Junk, there are some ways.
(1) Use "Automatically delete junk messages older than NN days".
This feature moves old Junk mails to Trash automatically.
Then you have to do is "Empty Trash".
(2) Delete "Junk" folder if you use standard Junk folder.
Mozilla/Thunderbird automatically creates predefined folders if not exist.
And Junk filder is deletable.
This is two click operation. Isn't this nice feature?
( Note-1 : Bug of opposite request is alreday opened - "Don't create!". )
( Note-2 : If Junk is moved to Trash, next delete of Junk is imposiible )
( until Empty Trash is executed. This is current limitation. )
( Bug for this is also already opend. )
How about above?

Moving from MSN Explorer Mail 9 and MSN Hotmail, I really would love an "Empty Junk Mail" context option on the pre-built Junk Mail folder. This is similar to Empty Trash, and automatically deletes all mail (not move to trash) in the Junk Mail folder. This would reduce it to a one-click process. Currently I have to select all mail in the Junk Mail folder, delete it, and then empty the trash. I know there is a way to make it automatic, but I prefer immediate satisfaction.
(In reply to comment #4) I agree. This exactly what I was looking for, and it appears I've found an open request on the issue. I would love an "Empty Junk Mail" just like there is an "Empty Trash". I don't empty my trash that often though, so it would be okay if the "Empty Junk Mail" simply moved the messages to the trash, but either way is fine with me - something better than Select All, Del, then emptying trash!

<ctrl a> shift delete will select and delete all, and not put anything in the trash.

Another mouse-only workaround: - Right-click on msg in msg list > Move to > Your Account > Trash A new bug for adding "*Select All*" to the message context menu might be helpful for mouse-only users, but "move all to trash" is too specific to be added there. Imo it's also a rather rare scenario to move *all* msgs of a folder to trash. This bug has never received much support, no votes, no CC's, and no supporting comments since 2005. Agree with Wayne's comment 7 -> Wontfix.
