User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041001 Firefox/0.10.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041001 Firefox/0.10.1

Used both http and ftp protocols. Tried multiple sites throughout US and 1 in
europe.

After multiple attempts to download, I finally said to myself "HEY!, Try using
Explorer to fetch FireFox!" and the download was successful. (actually, just
moments ago, as I was writing this bug report on the website.)

Using 1.0 prerelease consistently results in a "505 /pub/foo/bar...." directory
not found.

So... Firefox is better, except when you want to download the final release, and
then Explorer is better?

I need a Yugo to jump start my Cummins 800 HP Diesel?

Please notify me if this is an abberation.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. install firefox 1.0 pre-release
2. go to mozilla.org and attempt to download 1.0 final
3. observe the download stall at 4.0 out of 4.8 MB

Actual Results:
Depends. Re-Testing just now using http results in a stalled download.
Retry fools me. I now have just done a "retry" in the download window,
and have a fragment of 3.968 MB with what appeard to be a successful download.
Another fragment in the same directory is 4.048 MB.

Previous tests using ftp result in the /pub/foo/bar... 505 error.

RETESTING RIGHT NOW USING FTP...

from http://www.mozilla.org/mirrors.html
and selecting Virginia ftp://64.12.168.21/pub/mozilla.org ... full path ...
ftp://64.12.168.21/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.0/win32/en-US/
selecting file "Firefox Setup 1.0.exe" saving the file to local disk as
"Firefox Setup 1.0.retest.exe" yeilds the following:

ooooh!!!! bad bad bad!!!

I'm now getting different results for the 1st time in several download attempts!
FireFox this time stalled at "4.8 out of 4.8 MB

Right now I have the "Welcome to Mozilla FireFox 1.0 install window open on my
desktop. So running Explorer 1 time and getting to the install window has
affected the results of the failed downloads. I am not getting the 505 error
this time, and the downloader has simply stalled at the very end.

Please examine the FTP logs for 505 errors in order to find the actual path to
the directory which caused the problem. I never wrote it down by hand, and this
time I am unable to reproduce the same error, although the download has stalled
at the very end.

I hope this isn't too much information!
I will retest again using 1.0 final at your request.

Respectfully
Marty Ferguson

Thanks Marty, we usualy prefer alot of information so we thank you for your bug
report. Could you please try retesting this with a more recent nightly build
from the developer section of mozilla.org and report back on this page. Thanks.
From reporter via e-mail:

I have, since the bug report, upgraded to 1.0.3, and it went off without a hitch. But I will get a build from
the developer section and perform a final test.

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a

you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
