RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 245607

(Reporter: hoerbe, Assigned: mscott)

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041119 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041119 Firefox/1.0

I checked all option-bars and menubuttons, but there was no button to expunge
messages, marked as deleted on the IMAP server. A button for Expunging such
mails would be a great option.
This feature is also available in Mulberry. There it is placed next to the
delete button.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Use IMAP Server
2.Use Option Mark messages as deleted
3.Can't find an option to expunge

Actual Results:
the message is marked as deleted, but not deletable

Expected Results:
the message is marked as deleted, as it is the case right now, and is
expungeable by a button next to the delete button and may be even by a nice
key-combination.
Severity: major → enhancement
File -> Compact Folders
This works like expunge.
But I think, one needs to create such button and hotkey for this action

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

The latest beta releases can be obtained from:
Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/
Thunderbird: http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/releases/1.5beta1.html
Seamonkey: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/
This functionality is currently available in one or two different extensions
such as compactfolder:

http://compactfolder.mozdev.org/

However, it is a basic necessity for many IMAP users and should be integrated
into the main code.
File > Compact Folders isn't particularly helpful for IMAP users who are used to the "expunge" term used
by IMAP servers. Compact Folders also doesn't seem to work consistently (at least not for me using 1.0.7
or 1.5b2 on Mac OS X 10.4.x)
Please excuse the crosspost, but if anyone is interested in discussing the validity of this bug, please read and respond to the topic "IMAP Users Feeling Neglected" in the MozillaZine Thunderbird Features forum:
