I have only seen this on Win98-se. Running the same version of firefox on 2000
and XP does not produce the same lockup. This has occurred on every version of
Firebird/Firefox Ihave used on Win98 though.

The lockup happens when a menu item (file, edit, view, bookmarks, etc.) is
clicked on. The menu never appears and the machine is no longer responding. The
mouse pointer will often continue to track the mouse for a while though. This
happens most frequently with the Bookmarks menu, and sometimes with a right
click to bring up the "save link as" menu. It does not happen every time a menu
item is selected, but over the course of time will eventually happen almost
every time Firefox is run. This does not appear to be associated with any
particual web page, in fact almost half the time it will happen with the
initial(blank) page after starting Firefox.

Using <ctrl><alt><del> several times to reboot the machine is the only way to
get out of this situation, and occasionaly the even this will not work and the
reset button has to be used. I have never been able to bring up the task
manager, by pressing <ctrl><alt><del> one time, after the lockup occurs.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start Firefox on Win98se.
2.Click on file, edit, bookmarks, etc.(won't always occur immediately)
3.

Actual Results:
Computer locks up.

Expected Results:
Drop down menu should have drawn.

Is this still about in 1.5beta2? It could be something hardware specific, I suspect. What graphics card do you have?
I think you are correct about this being a hardware or driver specific issue. I have upgraded my motherboard, CPU and Video since I reported this, and the issue disappeared on the new hardware.

The old video card was a Diamond Monster Fusion.

I don't remember what versions I tried, but I did update several times and all versions had the same issue on the old hardware.

I'm currently running Firefox 1.0.6 with great results.

Thanks

Alex
I have been having the same issues as this person, but I run Windows Me. I've always been able to run firefox just fine until now. It's all of a sudden started doing the exact same thing described. My address bar is half visible (like it's been cut through the middle of the url. When I choose the bookmarks tab at the top of the page, it freezes my computer until I do ctrl alt delete. I can access all the other tabs but they're all fuzzy looking like its all incomplete. I don't know if its the theme I'm using or not, but I'm fixing to try changing the theme and seeing if that changes anything. (by the way I'm using version 2.0.0.4 on firefox).
I just changed the theme I had for my firefox and it worked. Everything is fine now. So just get the word out about the WALNUT FOR FIREFOX. I believe this is where the bug was for my problem. Because I updated it and thats when I started having problems.
