Details
Not all mice have a middle mouse button, nor do they choose to emulate it. I'd like to be able to double click a tab to close it. Doing so right now does not seem to do anything. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

Did you have some new explanation or rationale or, um, something, to counteract bug 183809 and bug 158040? I don't see where anything's changed from the discussion in bug 158040 - double-clicking is still what you do to open things, making it a good candidate for "open this tab in a new window" and a truly terrible candidate for "close this tab"
Oh damn, i was only searching open bugs. Guess I'll be forced to use an extension.
