selected text highlights, however (unlike say Word or Outlook which highlight
the newline character) selection of empty lines shows no visual cue whatsoever

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. enter text including lines containing only newline characters
2. select either with mouse or with cursors and shift
3. while text characters highlight, the empty lines do not, although they are
still selected
4. press delete or change formatting etc. to demonstrate that the empty lines
are indeed selected



Expected Results:  
visually highlighted the empty lines (just as it would text chars) to indicate
that deletes, formatting changes etc. will also affect these lines
