On a per-account basis (at least; per-group seems a bit too fine-grained to me),
I'd like to be able to ask TB to notify me when new messages appear in an NNTP
account, like it does when I get new e-mails.

Some of the NNTP accounts I get are intranet-only, therefore have limited
traffic, and are of special importance to me, too. I'd like to be able to react
swiftly to posts in there. On the other hand, when I use my ISP's news server
and world-wide groups, I would like *not* to get notified whenever someone
posts. Hence the per-account aspect.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

There's a very similar request for RSS feeds (bug #261841), and most of what
they suggest is valid here too. Although while per-feed notification settings is
pretty useful (some feeds I want to check once a day, others every 10 minutes),
it seems less necessary for newsgroups.

Still, maybe the same notification framework could be used for both features,
NNTP and RSS...
did you go into the server properties of your news server and set the "check for
new messages every XX seconds" setting? Or is that you want the new mail icon to
appear in the system tray when there's new news postings?
I do get periodical refresh, of course. What I don't have is the notification at
the system tray. Ideally, it would be a different icon, BTW. Same goes for RSS :-)

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
