using 2004120900-trunk firefox bits on Mac OS X (10.3.6), I'm unable to install extensions. (fwiw, tested with an existing profile.) 1. go to https://update.mozilla.org (either from the Extensions dialog, or directly from the Location bar in the browser). 2. go view an extension listing and click its corresponding "install" link. I tested this with a couple extensions: ForecastFox and WebDeveloper. expected: should get the "software installation" dialog prompting you to install/cancel. actual results: nothing happens (there's no JS console output). on Linux, I thought I could repro this, but instead there was just a looooong delay (2-5min). but on Mac nothing appears. for Marcia, this crashed firefox --she'll have the talkback info soon. iirc, this wasn't a problem for Tracy on Windows --so far this is limited to Mac.

Patrick, I'm not sure if it is, since bug 273423 occurs on all platforms... but, you never know... ;)

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a6) Gecko/20041209 Firefox/1.0+ I have noticed this for a week or two. Firefox compiled yesterday from sources downloaded about a week ago (debug build) and a brand new profile, installing the webdeveloper extension in accordance with your recipe, worked as expected. I am sure that your report is genuine, but you might want to check with a fresh profile.

I wasn't able to reproduce this with a fresh profile created with 2004121008-trunk firefox builds. so it looks like this affects users with an aviary-based profile.
Summary: [Mac] unable to install extensions → [Mac] unable to install extensions (exiting profile)

This bug occured to me on a PC (windows 2000). I cannot recall how i fixed it - but i think i manually called the extension allowed sites and manually entered the website then it showed. I can recall how the bug occured - i closed the "website is trying to install ..." dialog and then it wouldn't open again

(In reply to comment #6) > This bug occured to me on a PC (windows 2000). I can recall how the bug occured - i closed > the "website is trying to install ..." dialog and then it wouldn't open again This is probably a different issue. Bug 273956 should be closed WORKSFORME. If you have a recipe for reproduction, and can state what you were doing, what you exepected and what you observed then it ought to be opened as a new report.

Summary: [Mac] unable to install extensions (exiting profile) → [Mac] unable to install extensions (existing profile)
With a very recent trunk build, installing extensions works fine on Mac OS X 10.3.8. There is basically no useful information in this bug, so closing wfm.

as described in comment 0 and comment 5, I can no longer repro this particular issue. however, I found another issue when going from a firefox 1.0 profile to using a firefox trunk build. see bug 286299 for that problem.
