Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

Using thunderbird 1.0 and when I use the quicksearch and search for say 'caar'
and press enter to search. I really wanted to search for 'car', now the 'caar'
is highlighted in blue, and using the mouse I can't click in the test to insert
the cursar to make a edit. I have to use the arrow keys to move to were I want
to go.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Type 'caar' in quickfind box
2. Press Enter
3. Try to click anywhere in the word to edit the text
4. You can't!

Actual Results:
Nothing

Expected Results:
Inserted the cursar where I clicked so I can edit the text
Huh; this is true. Reproduced with TB 1.0, Win2K. I'm curious if this is also
seen under Linux or Mac.

Workaround: use the keyboard to place the cursor -- focus is on the field; home,
end, and arrows will work. Or simply type in the preferred string.

Even better workaround: don't press Enter! Quicksearch is active on a per-
keystroke basis. (Usually -- I've occasionally seen it require <enter> to
perform the search, but that's a different bug.)
Severity: normal → minor
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Component: General → Mail Window Front End
Ever confirmed: true
OS: Windows XP → Windows 2000
Summary: quickfind - editing text after search fails → quicksearch - after <enter>, mouse-click doesn't place cursor
Bug 283961 is about this same problem under the suite. As noted in that bug,
there are other ways to get into this state -- for instance, click in a
different window, or minimize the window and then restore.
Fix is in for TB at the dupe, maybe for the suite too.
