Hi.. My firefox hangs while working - When I close the prog using crtl-alt-del, and try to reopen firefox, it wont open. I have to reboot my pc to restart firefox. I have a new pc , with WinXP Pro, SP1 - so i guess the problem is not due to the Windows?!! REGDS

I have the same sort of problem aswell. I installed the lasets verion of firefox
1.0.2 and the window comes up and i get an alert which says "The connection
refused when sttempting to gontact {the website i am trying to reach}"
When i disable my firewall (Notron Personal Firewall 2003) firefox will the work
again. I re-installed firefox 1.0.2 and Norton Personal Firewall 2003 and i
still get this problem. The thing that baffles me is that Firefox 1.0.2 was
woring fine on my compter. I havent installed anymore programs and i did i virus
and spyware scan just to make sure there was nothing like that affecting it.
I am running windows XP pro with SP2. This is on my PC i also have the same
software installed on my laptop, XP Pro SP2 and Firefox is working fine.
I installed the lastest nightly build and Firefox is working fine again.
The only way that i can reproduce this fault is if i open Firefox version 1.0.2
with the firewall Enabled.

> When i disable my firewall (Notron Personal Firewall 2003), > firefox will work again. I have this problem, too. I installed Firefox 1.0.4 and it can't open sites. Then, I installed the latest night build of Firefox and the latest version of Mozilla (both in empty and distinct folders). They didn't work, too. Disabling Norton Internet Security 2005, the browsers work. Internet Explorer has no problem of seeing the same sites that I tried to open with Firefox. However, I like some Firefox extensions (which I disabled during some tests)... I am running windows XP Pro with SP2. > I installed the lastest nightly build and Firefox is working fine again. This didn't happen with me, if I enable Norton Internet Security. Is that build working with Norton, in your PC? >The only way that i can reproduce this fault is if i open Firefox version 1.0.2 > with the firewall Enabled. I agree.

I feel like I'm running naked, as I have the Personal Firewall turned off so I can use Firefox. (I have Norton anti-virus on, and that doesn't interfere.) Jack

Version: unspecified → 1.0 Branch
I'm having the same problem, although at first I didn't know that it was due to the Norton Firewall. I'm also running XP Pro. I created a bug about it here that can be closed, I suppose: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=319243
I have the same problem with Windows XP professional. Is a bug of Norton Internet Firewall that doesn't know the new version 1.5.0.2 of Mozilla Firefox and not allows it to access internet. As someone said in this post, at this moment Norton still haven't certified this application to access internet, and they didn't solve the problem. You don't have to turn off the firewall because you won't have protected your Pc. I have solved the problem opening the programs that doesn't allow access to internet in the Norton Firewall, I've searched the Firefox and allowed all the connections for this program (it was blocked). In the programs list take in mind that there are several firefox programs, the old firefox versions are allowed by the firewall but the new version of firefox (1.5.0.2) on the list is blocked, and when I change this status to "allow all" it works and the problem is solved. I'm sad that many people can confused this bug to a Firefox's bug and is a Norton's bug. Cheers Gerardo
I am having a similar problem: I did not connect this problem with Norton till I read this here. I am experiencing this with both the lastest Netscape and Firefox. There is no telling when it might occur: I have Firefox set to open in new windows instead of tabs. I will first notice the problem when new windows no longer open, I can open in new tabs but not new windows. If I close Firefox and try to open Firefox again it will not open. If I reboot then I can open Firefox and use it till this happens again. I discovered if I open Windows XP Task Manager, Firefos is still listed even though I had closed Firefox. If I remove firefox from the list in Task Manager then I can open Firefox without restarting. The same exact scenereo hapens with Netscape. In fact I had stopped using Netscape and started using Firefox for this very reason. I do have Norton Internet Security 2006 installed.
