User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8a6) Gecko/20041211 Firefox/1.0+ Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8a6) Gecko/20041211 Firefox/1.0+ The page http://www.united.com/page/framedpage/0,,1526,00.html for United Airlines should display a form where a customer can enter a request to receive email messages if a flight is delayed. All that shows up is a black title bar at the top. The URL itself is just a top level frame organizer. The frames inside don't work. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to http://www.united.com/page/framedpage/0,,1526,00.html 2. 3. Actual Results: All that shows up is a black title bar at the top. Expected Results: A form where a customer can enter a request to receive email messages if a flight is delayed. I sent two messages to United and received two prompt replies. They were polite but first said that I should use IE6, and then in the second message they said that the site will be made compatible at an indeterminate time in the future. I ran the page through the W3C validator. It flagged a number of errors in the 3.2 HTML that the document was supposed to be using. ------------------------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Dec 2004 16:32:18 -0500 From: Technical Support <technical@uasupport.com> Subject: Re: Re: Web technical support from Beirne Konarski(beirne@neo.rr.com) (KMM2497500V186L0KM) To: Beirne Konarski <beirne@neo.rr.com> Reply-to: Technical Support <technical@uasupport.com> Message-id: <3kmrmp$47v6s6@austtx-mx-04.mgw.rr.com> MIME-version: 1.0 X-Mailer: KANA Response 7.0.1.107 Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-transfer-encoding: quoted-printable Original-recipient: rfc822;beirne@neo.rr.com X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.0.1 (2004-10-22) on firenze X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-2.9 required=5.0 tests=ADDRESS_IN_SUBJECT,AWL, BAYES_00 autolearn=no version=3.0.1 Status: R X-Status: NC X-KMail-EncryptionState: X-KMail-SignatureState: X-KMail-MDN-Sent: Thank you for your email, Mr. Konarski. Hayden, Thank you for your prompt reply. It is unfortunate that you United chooses to put arbitrary requirements on its customers when they do business with = the airline. After I sent in my request I got curious and ran the page through the HTML validator (http://validator.w3.org/) at the W3C and it failed = badly. The validator is a tool provided by the W3C, the organization that manages World Wide Web standards. It is in United's interest to follow international standards when it presents itself to customers in order to achieve maximum customer satisfaction.
