This is a tracking follow-on, requested in

  https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=266008#c12

When firefox saves a web page with a properly defined name (such as
"disappearing dollar" instead of the silly default print.pl) without an
extension, MacOSX assigns the file kind "document". The Finder Info panel
can change this to "Firefox document".

These "Firefox document"s will not drag-and-drop onto the Dock.

Many of these Firefox documents will display when dragged to an open window.

However, when such a document has an entirely correct network domain suffix,
such as "whois google.com", Firefox incorrectly interprets that as MS-DOS
executable. All "Firefox document"s should be interpreted based on their
actual content, rather than some arbitrary external distinction.
for reference, see bug 274195
I empathize with the filer's pain, you only have to look at the way Firefox
handles downloading of .dmg archives by always requesting (except when it
doesn't) how you would like the file to be handled before you can download it,
regardless of what is set in the preferences. I filed bug 304774, and no matter
what anyone tells me, they will never convince me a .dmg is any more of an
executable than any other archive format that IS routinely downloaded automatically.

I would love to set this bug as confirmed because it seems to be a legacy bug
that has been hindering mac users in particular for a long time. I'll cc Josh
into this because it's something he may want to tackle, but sadly i don't think
we will see this for 1.5
