I am considering purchasing a discussion forum website that contains "FireFox" in the domain name. As it stands now, the website uses the FireFox logo in the header. The purpose of this website is to promote the awareness and use of the FireFox software. It, essense, serves the same purpose as SpreadFirefox, a site I am sure you are aware of. Before making a final bid on this website, I believe it is appropriate that I ask for permission concerning the use of the FireFox name and logo. If permitted, I have the resources to make it an excellent community to help defeat the Microsoft monopoly. Thanks in advance, Jason Siegel

The Mozilla Trademark Policy has a section on domain names: http://www.mozilla.org/foundation/trademarks/policy.html As it stands, any name with "Firefox" in it wouldn't be permitted under the guidelines. Given that you are duplicating the function of SpreadFirefox, there doesn't seem much reason to make an exception. Why not join the crew at SpreadFirefox? I'm sure they could use your help. Gerv

"Domain names cannot include our trademarks without asking us." This is what I seek to do. I am an Internet developer and would like to expand from one forum community under my belt to two. I already own GreenHybrid.com. I have the resources to make a successful website that promotes the FireFox product and does much for the advancement of its success. In order to do this, however, I will need my own project. I cannot think of any reason why the Mozilla staff would want to hinder an effort to promote their product. By doing so, they are working towards their own demise. Are you a member of the staff? Who would be able to grant me official permission to use the FireFox name and logo in this manner? Once again, this is an opportunity, and not just for me. Thanks. Jason Siegel

You'll be pleased to hear that we now have an agreement you can sign to get permission to do this. Thank you very much for your patience in this matter. You can get the document here: http://www.mozilla.org/foundation/trademarks/domain-name-license.pdf I apologise that it's only a PDF at the moment; I hope to get an HTML version up soon. If you would like to use a Foundation trademark as part of your domain name, you just need to fill in a copy, return it to us by postal mail, and wait for the reply. If you have any questions, please contact licensing@mozilla.org. Gerv
