274758 - Opening new windows when selecting a link

If I am looking at any Web site and click on a link, a new window comes up at my
home page.  My original window has connected to the link I clicked on.  These
are NOT pop-ups.  This is troublesome when I am trying to do Web research for my
job, and every time I click on a Google result I find a brand new window in
front of my desired one. 

This occured before and my tech help recommended I download the newest version
of Firefox.  That was done, but now the problem is occuring again.  Please let
me know if there are any settings I need to change.
