The compacting folders message shown on the status bar does not clear after
completion. This relates to version 1 of the program.

I have seen the same thing.  The status bar lists each folder being
compacted in turn and the green progress meter on the lower right works
as expected for each one.  Then when the last folder has been compacted,
the progress meter disappears and the status bar still displays the name
of the last folder that was compacted:  "Compacting folder ABCD..."
Rerunning Compact Folders doesn't clear the status message.  You have to
do something like displaying a message from any folder to refresh the
status bar and clear the "Compacting folder" status.

If Thunderbird has to display something at the end of compacting, an
explicit "Compacting completed" would be good, certainly much better
than the current situation which makes the user think compacting is
still underway.
