At present, it is possible to disable non-core mail functionality on an application-wide basis (e.g. disable JavaScript using Tools->Options->Advanced->Privacy). Especially now that RSS is supported, it would be very useful to be able to disable functionality such as JavaScript, cookies, remote images, and so on in a more fine-grained fashion. One approach I would favor would be on a per-account basis, so I could enable these features for my "News and Blogs"/RSS account. There is also discussion of a zones (host/URL) based approach in bug 260020.
