User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040906 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040906 I am running Suse 9.2 under KDE 3.30, in a dual boot environment with Windows XP Pro. Two days ago I downloaded Thunderbird 1.0 from your website, installed it and created two email accounts that I use. The program was working perfectly until I tried to access it while in Firefox. At that time, I was given a new account setup menu where I had to input all my information again. Once I finished, I was running under .8 and all my emails that had been downloaded under 1.0 were gone. It seems that the installer should be smart enough to know there is a more current version of the software already being used. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1.Attempt to send an email in Firefox when you haven't done it before, and when there is a newer version version available on the computer. 2. 3. Actual Results: Already described above. Expected Results: The installer should have searched the computer for any installed versions and terminate the install if there is a newer version on the computer.

1. there is no straightforward way to search your computer for an existing installation. 2. some people want different versions installed simultaneously 3. I'm pretty sure you didn't overwrite anything (which was actually the problem). You probably had Thunderbird 0.8 installed somewhere and installed Thunderbird 1.0 somewhere else. But Firefox still only knew about Thunderbird 0.8, and so opened it up. It didn't understand what it saw in your profile directory and so it started over. Is that possible? Are you sure 1.0 is gone?
