Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 In recent versions of Mozilla (such as 1.4), Edit->Preferences->Privacy & Security->images offers a selection item labeled "Animated images should loop", with the choices of "As many times as the image specifies, "Once", or "Never". After a thorough search, I was unable to find a corresponding menu item anywhere in the Firefox menu tree, nor does the help index list "images" or "animation". However, the animation disable function itself is implemented in software, and appears to work correctly. Setting image.animation_mode to "none" in prefs.js does disable animation. I classify this as "Normal", rather than "Minor", because this capability is important to some users (old-timers like me) whose ability to concentrate is simply overwhelmed if anything is moving in the peripheral vision field. I was unable to use Firefox at all on some sites until I dug through the docs and figured this puzzle out. A workaround exists, but is not all that easy to find. Otherwise, Firefox is an impressive achievement. In a nutshell, keep up the good work. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open every branch of every preferences menu, looking for a way to disable animation. 2. Go into about:config and set image.animation_mode to "none" 3. Actual Results: Animation was successfully suppressed by manually setting the config variable. Expected Results: It should have provided a menu option for changing this config variable, or instructions in the help file for doing it by hand. Results were identical using a Debian Sarge package, and a tarball downloaded from www.mozilla.org today. Didn't manage to locate a nightly build. Tested on Linux 2.4.26, XFree86 4.3 with ATI Radeon driver, Athlon MP, ATI FireGL X1.
