Firefox uses a different color than the expected for menu text items, making it
really unreadable in some themes. I'll attach a screenshot show how Firefox and
another APP are shown with 6nome GTK theme.

Thunderbird suffers from the same bug.
There's been a lot of work on this in in the 1.8 timeframe.  Can you try a trunk
build to compare?
Tested moz1.8a5 and it the text color is ok, only arrows (submenus) and
checkmarks (toggleable options) are still in the wrong color.

When will this land into Firefox?
I've reopened bug 244955 to try to get this onto the Aviary branch and so into
Firefox.
