User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 The Card summary Pane in the Thunderbird address book creates a problem when one plays with its size. When the 'Card Summary Pane is as big as possible (and the list of addresses has as little room as possible), the search field on the upper right, where one can enter a name or email address, disappears. Yet one can still see the gray "Name or Email", and one can still use this field to search something in the Address Book. But if one clicks into the seach field in this 'disappeared' view, it stays that way until you close and reopen the address book window. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Thurderbird 2.Open the Address Book (seperate window) 3. make sure the Card Summary Pane is on (View --> 'Card Summary Pane') 4. change the size of the Card Summary Pane with the mouse. Make it as big as possible. 5. notice that the search field on the upper right has practically disappeared. 6. click somewhere in the grayish, hard-to-read text 'Name or Email' Actual Results: The search field on the upper right corner of the address book window is gone. Expected Results: The search field should never have disappeared like that. I.e. the top of the address list should never be able to be moved, so that the search field always has the same amount of space.

Investigating whether this bug is still valid, I ended up in this state, using TB 1.0+0806, Win2K (with Large Fonts set): the search field hasn't disappeared, but its lower half is cut off (and the icons appear vertically compressed within). Interestingly to me, the first time I saw the search field squeezed like this, moving the splitter back restored the field's height. I did it a second time, tho, and dropped the splitter, where I hadn't before. Now the change was persistent: moving the splitter had no further effect on the search field. Closing and reopening the address book, however, restores the field to its full height, even if the window is closed with the splitter as far up as it will go.

As of thunderbird 1.5 (I think, if not, then it should be in 2.0), the quick search field is now located on the toolbar which cannot be shrunk. Mike can you confirm this on windows for me? Thanks.

The change wasn't in 1.5, but the 2a1 nightlies behave as you suggest -- search field is in the main toolbar rather than a "searchbar," and the toolbar is not affected by the splitter resizing. Good catch!
