Windows XP Professional Tablet Edition

When I start a download the status updates on the Download Manager item in the
Windows Taskbar as well as in the Download Manager window itself.  If I give the
focus to another program the status freezes in the Taskbar and doesn't get
updated again until Firefox has the focus again.

Works for me. Try disabling all your extensions that deal with downloads - at
the very least, the Download Statusbar extension interferes with that updating.
